Kathy Gaertner joined the IFC’s Inclusive Business Models Group as a consultant in 2011. Prior to IFC, Kathy supported corporate social responsibility program development for private sector clients. She also worked with Liberia’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry to conduct an assessment of the country’s concession agreements and created a guidebook for small businesses on accessing Liberia’s credit market, receiving commendation from President Johnson Sirleaf on the guidebook’s usefulness for Liberian entrepreneurs. Previously, Kathy worked for several years with the Urban Institute, managing economic development and governance projects for USAID and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Initially based at the Urban Institute’s headquarters in Washington, DC, she later held a long-term post in Indonesia working on asset management with the Supreme Court and Ministry of Finance. Kathy started her career as a Securities Analyst, holds a master’s degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Furman University.
