Andrew Benedict-Nelson is a director at Insight Labs, a humanitarian foundation that convenes the smartest, most influential people to tackle the world’s toughest problems. A writer and editor, his work has appeared in the Times Literary Supplement, the Los Angeles Review of Books, The Common Review, Bookmarks, Another Chicago Magazine, and other venues. He holds a Master of Arts degree in the History of Medicine from The Johns Hopkins University, where he investigated the teaching of anatomy and surgery in early modern Spain. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University, where he worked on various topics in the history of science and medicine. A Midwesterner by upbringing if not by birth, Benedict-Nelson resides in Gardner, Kansas, with his wife and a cat and a pack of dogs.
