Next Step Network
President & CEO
Stacey Epperson, President & CEO of the Next Step® Network, is a native of rural Kentucky and has worked in affordable housing throughout her entire career. In 2010, she assumed leadership of Next Step, a social venture that mobilizes a national network of nonprofits to provide energy-efficient, affordable housing solutions tailored to the needs of their communities. Next Step’s partnership with Clayton Homes and KIT HomeBuilders West creates a new market dynamic that makes it easier for nonprofits to fulfill their mission, and for more low-income families to achieve homeownership.Next Step evolved from Stacey’s nine years as President and CEO of Frontier Housing in northeastern Kentucky. While there, Stacey worked to triple Frontier's total production, loan fund and net worth. As one of the nation's most respected nonprofit providers of manufactured housing and one of the NeighborWorks® Network's largest homebuilders, Stacey testified before a Senate Committee in an effort to replace pre-HUD Code mobile homes across the United States with new, energy-efficient homes. In 2012, Stacey was elected as an Ashoka Fellow for her innovative approach to creating the only independent distribution channel for affordable manufactured housing. She was previously recognized as one of CFED's Innovators-in-Residence and has completed the Achieving Excellence in Community Development Program at Harvard's JFK School of Government. She received a Masters of Public Administration at Western Kentucky University and attended the University of Kentucky Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce. She was the recipient of a Housing and Urban Development Work- Study Fellowship. Stacey serves on the boards of the Kentucky Housing Corporation, the National Rural Housing Coalition and the Fair Mortgage Collaborative, in addition to the Advisory Council for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati.
